This activity is not made for everybody. I wouldn't recommend it if your shape and health are not very good because once in the forest you will be on your own, in fact not alone and never adventure yourself alone into the jungle, you may regret it, but if something happens you will be obliged to do the way back by yourself, there is no medical helicopter in Koh Chang and you will have to reach the road first to get help.

Don't be scared, nothing has never happened in the forest when people have been with a guide. Without a guide, some people have been lost and some of them have even been obliged to spend a night trying to find their way back.

There are 2 types of treks, the short one of 3 to 5 hours and the long one which will last a full day or even a night for the most adventurous.
I have experienced the short one and believe me it wasn't a piece of cake and those 4 hours seemed to be endless.

The most difficult are the heat, the humidity and the climbing to the top of mountains. And I don't talk about the mosquitoes and the different creatures you can meet. That's why I don't recommend this activity to everybody, your heart beat may go quite high and you will sweat a lot, more than you can imagine.

But there are plenty of good and interesting sides to do this trek. First you will discover an environment you have maybe never seen. Then your guide will show you plants you didn't even know, you will see and listen wild animals and insects. You may cross tarantulas and if you are lucky… or unlucky you may see few snakes. Pythons, King Cobras and Rat Snakes are also living in Koh Chang. But animal lovers will enjoy watching beautiful birds, monkeys, mongoose, wild pigs and other small mammals. It's not like being in a zoo, those animals are wild and it can be sometimes very difficult to see them.

The guides have a big experience, they will supply you mosquito repellents as well as water. Some of them can also propose you walking shoes but if you have your own take them with you, your feet will thank you. Avoid flip-flops, it's sometimes slippery, there are rocks and lots of leeches waiting to suck your blood. Socks are recommended as well as extra water with you, you will sweat a lot!

Teerasak from Thomas Koch Travel & Adventure is also an excellent guide and he can organise different types of trek according to your physical condition.

Maybe during the trek you will say "why I didn't choose the snorkelling trip?" or "why I didn't stayed at the pool sipping a fresh cocktail?", back at your resort you will be completely exhausted but you will get an unforgettable experience. Believe me!

Here are some pictures of the half day trek I did myself. I would consider it as a trek for beginners with a good healthy condition.
