Few years ago I decided to inventory all the resorts, hotels and guesthouses which have been awarded by TripAdvisor. It's a good advertising for those places and a reward for them for the good work they have done but it's also a good motivation for the others which are not in the list. But I did it more for you than for the resorts and hotels. If you have never been on Koh Chang and don't know the island, it will give you a large choice of "trusted" places and avoid bad surprises.
Searching all the places which have been awarded is not the easiest thing like they are more than 200 on Koh Chang. On top of that it's changing every year. You can imagine it's not an easy work but it's fun to do it and I know that it will help some of you.
This year there has been 47 places awarded by TripAdvisor if I didn't forget any. For now I added 25 in the list. It may look a bit messy but don't worry, I will update the map and add categories.
For now you can find this list here.
Meanwhile Koh Chang is getting quiet, beaches are deserted and resorts have started to propose lower rates. It has been raining this week and of course when it starts to rain roads are very slippery and all the time there are some accidents. Please be careful if you are on Koh Chang when it's raining.
And yesterday BB Divers organised freediving on the HTMS Chang ship wreck. Here are today's short news!

Abella Cuisine is one of my favourite restaurants on Koh Chang. It's located in Chai Chet, at Coconut Plaza.
The place is very calm, slightly away from the main road. The staff is always helpful, the service is fast, you don't have to wait hours to be served and the food are not expensive at all.
I like almost all what they are proposing in their menu, Thai or "Italian" food. You can't expect to have the same pizza or lasagne than in Italy but what is doing Abella is very good, and it's fresh. They do their own pastas as well as pizza bases, nothing industrial and frozen like some other places.
This time I just ordered a seabass with lemon butter and of course I couldn't leave without the banana split :)

The new Koh Chang Guide has just been released online. As always, lots of useful information if you are planning your trip to Koh Chang or if you are already in Koh Chang.

Every year on 13th of March is celebrated the Thai National Elephant Day or Chang Thai Day (วันช้างไทย).
Did you know that in Thailand, white elephants are considered sacred and are a symbol of royal power. Chang Thai Day has three main purposes. The first is to show how significant elephants are to Thailand. The second is to demonstrate how the Thai culture depends on the elephants. Lastly, this annual celebration promotes awareness about protecting and conserving the Thai elephant population and its habitats.
Before starting to protest against the elephant camps, you should know that in Thailand the elephant is considered like a domestic animal.
You ride and use ponies, horses, donkeys, mules, yaks, camels, ostrich, reindeer, lamas, ... here it's elephants. You use a leash to hold your dog, here it's a chain. It may looks terrible but without this chain the elephants will run everywhere, on the roads, inside the resorts and on people's garden.
You may say "yes but elephants are wild animals not domestic". It's true, like horses were and are still in some parts of the world, like dogs and cats were thousands of years ago before being domesticated. Domestication also helps in the survival of some species and nowadays lots of species need help before they completely disappear.
Don't misunderstand me, I'm an animal lover and I don't like to see tortured and mistreated animals. There are some people who don't care about animals and mistreat them but now I'm talking about Koh Chang elephant camps.
Elephants are protected and respected in Thailand. Without those camps, maybe those elephants will end working on dangerous construction sites, hit by cars or killed by the city pollution. Those camps bring work to a lot of people so believe me that they care a lot about their elephants. So, when I read in a blog "... we stopped at an elephant station where we would have had a chance to feed elephants for a fee. None of us got excited about the idea since we all knew how badly elephants are tortured and mistreated at elephant camps and stations." Please, spend a full day or a week in an elephant camp on Koh Chang and you will see if they are tortured.
At the beginning I was also thinking that those beautiful creatures are sad and tortured. But after spending time in some camps to observe and talk to the mahouts and owners I realised how much they love their animals. Stay in a camp, especially in the evening when all tourists are gone and look how they take care of their elephants. You can see the elephants following them and acting like pets, huge pets.

Yesterday evening there has been a gala dinner at Klong Prao school. Like every year it was organised to celebrate the senior students who have been graduated and also to collect money for the school.
Congratulations to the little Princesses for the nice show and thank you to all the persons who came and donated.

Here are more nice, good and interesting places I would like to share with you.
Amber Sands Beach Resort is a small romantic resort located on the north east cost of Koh Chang, at about 1km from Centerpoint ferry pier.
Cheryl and Julian, the owners, are lovely, their main goal is to make sure their guests feel comfortable and spend relaxing holidays.
The resort is quite small, there isn’t so much around, except a couple of other small resorts but the area is so calm.
The garden is beautiful, it has been arranged that each bungalow gets its own privacy surrounded by plants, flowers, trees and colourful bushes. Each bungalow has its own type of decoration which looks a bit colonial for some and rustic for others. They are surrounding the nice swimming-pool.
The small beach is extremely quiet. No beach vendors to bother you here. It’s cleaned daily and even several times per day by the staff. Sun loungers, swings, kayaks and a paddle board are also available for the guests.
And if you want to have fun, there is a small floating platform from where you can jump or just lay down.
If you have been on the west coast of Koh Chang, you will find Amber Sands Beach Resort extremely relaxing. The only sound you can listen comes from the birds.
I really love this place and the way the owners are taking care of it.
The restaurant is another hidden gem. I won't describe all the menu because I first haven’t tasted everything and I also prefer you discover it by yourself. But what I ate there was simple but delicious!
If you want to contact Cheryl or Julian, just look at the bottom of this page, there are all the info and links needed.
Another area and another style!
Pajamas Koh Chang Hostel is one of the most famous and maybe the best Hostel you can find on Koh Chang.
If you like to live in a community and share with other people you will love this place.
When you step inside, you immediately realise that you become a new family member. You feel like being home with new friends. You can use the kitchen and cook for yourself or share your cooking with other guests.
The big Ikea style bean bags can make you think the Swedish mafia :) owns the place but it’s just a funny story between Chat, the owner, and some of his Swedish friends.
Anyway they are very comfortable and you can move them wherever as you want.
Chat is sometimes arranging day trips, biking, kayaking,.. with his guests. It’s like a big family.
As Amber Sands Beach Resort, you can find at the bottom of this page all the information needed to get in touch with Pajamas Hostel.
If you sometimes want to eat something small, easy and fast to order, I recommend you the chicken kebabs from Mrs. Wepa.
First of all Wepa is a very nice woman and second her chicken kebabs are very good. Roasted chicken with sliced raw vegetables, sauce of your choice, all rolled in a bread, and all of that for 70 baht.
You can find Wepa almost every day in Chai Chet around noon in front of 7/11 (near Coconut Beach Resort) and after 6.00 pm on the opposite side, in front of the bank.
Tell her you have seen her on the internet or Facebook, she will be happy ;)

It has been a long time since the last update. So let's make this one a bit longer than usually.
The weather on Koh Chang is very nice. Hot sunny days with most of the time a blue sky. It hasn't been raining for a couple of months and Koh Chang starts to be dry.
Last week there has been small local showers but it wasn't everywhere on the island, just some parts of the west coast. It rained heavily for 15-20 minutes then the sun came back. Nothing dramatic if you have been on Koh Chang or if you are planning to come this week or the following ones.
The morning is a very good time if you want to relax, meditate or jog on the beach, the temperature is not yet very high and it's very quiet. In the afternoon the sun is very strong, remember to protect your skin.
2 weeks ago has been the Ultra-Trail Unseen Koh Chang 2017 which was on the south-east of Koh Chang, in Salak Phet. There has been a lot of contestants like the past years and this time I decided to participate.
I didn't feel trained enough to run the 35, 70 or the 100 km but I did the 13 km. Let's see next year, maybe I will go for a longer distance.
I want to congratulate everybody who passed the finish line as well as the organisation. Even if 13 kilometers sounds to be a short distance compared to 35, 70 or 100, it was tough.
The start of the 13 km was at 6.30 am and I arrived less than 2 hours later. Not that bad for a first trail. The temperature at 8.30 am was already 36C and more than 40C in the afternoon when the other contestants arrived.
Congratulations to Mr. Soonseng Ong from Malaysia and to Mr. Wataru Iino from Japan who ran the 100k in 15 hours and 8 minutes! They can't be human ;)
Every morning you can see Thaifun crew picking-up their guests from the different beaches. The weather is now perfect to do this type of day-trip. If there is one attraction you have to do in Koh Chang, this is the one I strongly recommend. Believe me, you won't be disappointed!
If you are following me on Facebook, you have already seen some of my posts about Blue Lagoon Resort. Since few months they have a new Chef, Séverine Mayer, candidate of the French TV show Master Chef, season 4 (2013).
Séverine has created a new menu and revisited the traditional Thai cuisine that she has now named "Thai Fusion Cuisine". I really recommend you Blue Lagoon restaurant. First, the place and the atmosphere are very calm and unique. The dishes are as beautiful as tasty. On each bite you get an explosion of flavours in your mouth.
Malee from Boonya Resort in Klong Prao is proud to show her new award. Congratulation to Christine and to all her staff!
Boonya Resort is a small resort with rooms, bungalows and a nice swimming-pool. Inside the resort is like a family atmosphere. Each guest is treated as a part of a family member.
A new bakery has opened in Klong Prao. Bread Box Bakery Shop is located nearby Klong Prao resort, almost on the opposite side of Koh Chang Gym. Andy who had a bakery in New York is already supplying few resorts and restaurants on Koh Chang. His breads and buns are very good, you should give him a try!
Are you planning to get tattooed during your holidays on Koh Chang? Real or fake tattoos, machine or traditional bamboo tattoos, I can recommend you those tattooists who are very good, professional and very friendly:
Naka Tattoo Studio in White Sand Beach, King Tattoo in Klong Prao, Danny Tattoo in Lonely Beach and Traditional bamboo tattoo by King in Klong Kloi (Bang Bao).
Before ending this news, here is a picture taken a couple of days ago from Koh Chang Resort's restaurant. Yes, it's Christmas all the year on Koh Chang :)
Everything is better in Koh Chang, we have the best beaches, the best sunsets, the best food, the best drinks, the best atmosphere and of course The Best Medicine :)

Last week has been very busy to reply to all your emails and messages, but it's all the time a pleasure to help you.
I just want to remind you that I still cannot predict the weather which will be in few months. For the best place where to stay in Koh Chang, I would say that there isn't any best place, they are just all different. Some of you will like White Sand beach while others will prefer Kai Bae. It's just a question of taste.
If you don't know in which hotel, resort or guesthouse to stay, have a look at the list of places I have reviewed. There are all the information you need, the location, what kind of accommodations, the different activities proposed, everything is there as well as a lot of pictures to illustrate.
I also want to thank you all for your nice messages and comments but also for the pictures you have sent me. Thank you to Christine, Janis, Monika, Jesper and to all the others!
And finally I want to wish a happy Valentine's Day to everybody!
Tonight, lots of bars, restaurants and resorts will have a special dinner or happening for all the lovers. Like at Koh Chang Paradise Resort & Spa for example with a special buffet, traditional Thai dances, gifts and a fire show.

How to explain to your guests without making them mad that your Wi-Fi has a technical problem?
I think they have found a funny and nice way to do it at Blue Lagoon Resort. After reading this message you don't feel the need to complain anymore.

2 days ago there has been a fishing and snorkelling trip in Klong Son bay organised by Eat Here Restaurant and one of their guests has done a video. You can see that you don't need to go very far if you want to snorkel and see corals, fishes and other creatures.
About fishes, yesterday Watchara from Thaifun got a nice one when they were travelling from Koh Chang to Koh Wai (outside the National Park of course, where it's allowed to fish). Their guests had the opportunity to show to their friends that in Thailand there are big ones ;)

Yesterday Eat Here restaurant located in Klong Son has organised a fishing and snorkelling tour in the bay of Klong Son. Tickets were sold out, the host doesn't want to take more than 15-16 people on the boat for safety reasons.
In the program there has been fishing of course, grilling, eating, drinking and snorkelling in a very friendly atmosphere. Don't expect to catch enormous fish, but for sure you will spend a nice time on the boat.
Next fishing tour will be next Sunday night. The atmosphere will be different and people will experience night fishing until the sunrise. Unfortunately it's already sold out. For more information, please contact Eat Here Restaurant, the information are on this page.
