Nothing special right now in Koh Chang, it's still very quiet and the weather isn't so bad for a rainy season. It's mainly cloudy with sometimes rain which doesn't really last but we have anyway beautiful sunny days.
Some of you have been asking me to review other hotels or resorts from other cities. This is what I will do and I started with Suvarnabhumi International Airport's Hotels where I have stayed several times.
It can happen that your plane will leave from Bangkok early in the morning and then you don't have other choice than leaving Koh Chang the day before. Some other people will prefer to not stress for the departure and still enjoy one or 2 days in Thailand, not so far from the airport.
Those 2 hotels I have added to my list are very nice, with big and comfortable rooms, beautiful swimming-pool, spa, fitness centre, restaurants and free airport shuttles.

I have added in my recommendation list a new place where to stay in Koh Chang. For me it's the best hostel you can find on the island and it's very well ranked on the different booking websites as well as TripAdvisor.
Pajamas Koh Chang Hostel is located in Klong Prao, at less than 2 minutes walk from the north part of Klong Prao beach. They have Dormitory and Double Deluxe rooms, a beautiful swimming-pool but what characterises Pajamas from other hostels is the family atmosphere.

Yesterday I was writing about the registrations of the Ultra-Trail Unseen Koh Chang 2017 which will start today.
Here is the map of the 70 km route. Total accumulated elevation: 2,800 meters. Good luck!
Amber Sands Beach Resort is now closed until mid October and they are also taking advantage of the rainy season to replace thatch grass on the bungalow roofs, to paint, fix, sand down wood and reseal, to regrout the swimming pool tiles and make sure the resort will be in good shape for when they will re-open.
There will be 2 events this weekend.
- Tomorrow Saturday, there will be a big birthday party at SALT Beach Bistro in Kai Bae. You are all invited!
- On Sunday, Hiking adventure and explorer trip (cycle trail) to "Khao Laem" in Salak Phet, the 5th highest mountain of Koh Chang (649 mts.). For more information please contact Thomas Koch Travel & Adventure.
Have also a look at Ian's review who did this trek a couple of weeks ago:

During the rainy season, some resorts are renovating their rooms, bungalows, garden and so on. This is the case of T.P. Hut Bungalows in Pearl beach which has installed new roofs, new ceilings and other improvements for all their bungalows.

A new Bar/Restaurant has just been added to the website. Salt Beach Bistro is a new place in Kai Bae with a beautiful seaview, a swimming-pool opened to the customers, a Brunswick pool table, a bar, a restaurant and a great atmosphere.
Opened daily from 11 am to 10 pm, inside Coral Resort!

Today there has been a "Red tide" in Kai Bae beach. This phenomenon also known as algae bloom (large concentrations of aquatic microorganisms) which happens during the rainy season is not very common in Koh Chang. This bloom creates dark red or brown colour patches on the sea near the surface.
Some red tides are associated with the production of natural toxins, depletion of dissolved oxygen or other harmful effects, and are generally described as harmful algae blooms which kills the marine life.
It's better to not swim there and wait it goes away.

Cloudy, windy or rainy, it doesn't matter, there are still some things to do in Koh Chang.

Klong Prao which is located on the west coast between White Sand beach and Kai Bae has the longest sandy beach of Koh Chang and a village with few attractions but also lots of resorts, hotels, restaurants, a waterfall, 3 elephant camps, a temple, supermarkets, drugstores, ... all what you need during your holidays. The busy village is the complete opposite of the beach which is very quiet, even during the high season.

After the bomb blasts which happened last Thursday and Friday in Hua Hin, Phuket, Phang-Nga, Trang and Surat Thani, the security level has been increased in attractions places as well as at the pier on the mainland even if suspects have been arrested and the Police said that conditions have returned to normal.
According to the Bangkok Post, "Authorities pursue theory that anti-regime elements were behind the deadly coordinated bombings and arson attacks that rocked the South and Hua Hin".
This weekend 2 persons have drowned in Koh Chang. On Saturday a 55 years old German man died in Klong Prao beach when he swam to bring back his son to the shore. The son came back alive but not his father.
And on Sunday, a 19 years old British girl also drowned at White Sand beach.
It's the rainy season and the sea is dangerous with strong waves and currents. If there are red flags, it's for a good reason.
When you see red flags on the beach, stay away from the sea and do not try your luck. Don't risk your life and life of rescuers.
I will end today's update with a very good news.
Lots of you have heard or know Thaifun and then the famous Noknoi and Watchara, aka Wat :)
Last Friday was Mother's Day here in Thailand and Noknoi gave birth to a 3,02 kg cute little girl named Mali which means Jasmine because Jasmine is the flower of the Queen and it also refers to Mother's Day.
Mali is healthy and her parents, Noknoi and Wat are very happy, everything went very well.
You will be able to see Noknoi and Wat again when Thaifun season will start beginning of November.
